Cargo Panel Removal

Had an oopsie and need access inside the right rear cargo panel- 2003 model. Any instructions, tips or guidance on removing the right rear interior cargo panel?

You'll need to fold the 3rd row forward, remove the interior trim panel off the lift gate and then remove the black steel panel off the inside. Then it gets fun. Toyota left no access to the latch arms from the inside of the vehicle (obviously for anti theft purposes) the plastic case that surrounds the latch will have to be broken off the latch assy and then you'll be able to access the release arm on the latch itself. Order the exterior handle from toyota the sell a new version with a metal arm instead of the original plastic. I also replaced the cable from handle to latch while i was at it because the cable stretches over time, the door won't open so you pull harder, then you break the handle.

Agree on the OEM Metal handle/lever with new cable. Be careful with the license plate trim to not crack or break it when replacing the parts.
