Wife just cam e home and said we have an issue with the Sequoia 06' Limited 2wd. There is a loud clunk coming from the rear end as I slowly roll forward. It happens in reverse as well. Sound like it is the differential, but I don't know for sure. Is there a known U-joint or Diff issue in these?

Diffs and ujoints are not typical.

Crawl under there and start checking if anything is loose.

I assume that you have changed the fluid in the diff? FWIW I had the same issue several years ago when I had a 2WD model and changing fluid fixed it.

Is it constant when rolling or does it do it just when you first start?

Dang, that stinks. Sorry to hear about that. Our drive shaft makes a loud thud when you take off after a hard stop is why I asked. It's the slip in the shaft and gets louder if not greased often.

2005 Sequoia 2wd.....158k miles.......just had my rear differential rebuilt by M.I.T. Drivetrain Specialists in El Cajon, CA ( San Diego area ).
Problem: howling ( whirling noise ) gets louder with increasing speed and gets quieter with decreasing speed.
Diagnosis: differentials bearing rebuild ( 2 carrier bearings and the 2 bearings for the pinion gear. ). The ring, pinion gear, and spider gears themselves were fine.
Bearings wear out. This is more common than you think.

Anyway, rear differential is as quiet as the day it rolled off the assembly line. Only problem was that it was a good chunk of change to fix.

Yes, I am guilty of never changing fluid the differential fluid.
